Clubs and Societies

Friday Club (for children)

Founded in 1971, the Friday Club meets fortnightly during term time in the Methodist Hall and provides an opportunity for local children Years 3-6 to meet outside of school hours, encouraging the younger and older ones to work and play together in a safe environment. It aims to provide new experiences and encourage the children to think of each other, the community and the wider world in a responsible way, endeavouring to teach these skills through fun activities. We enjoy evenings "out" (swimming, cycling, visiting beach/local attractions, skittles, sports, treasure hunts/rambles, star/bat spotting) and evenings "in" (crafts, games - team and board, fun quizzes/competitions, parties, interests/hobbies, visitors, DVDs, discos, preparing for events/celebrations, baking). Every second year we have a Family Fun Fund Raising evening for charity. Weekly subs £2, which presently includes 40p of tuck. Contact: Rosemarie Courtney on 01598 740382.

NOMADS Community Theatre

Nomads is an amateur drama group (now officially NOMADS Community Theatre) founded in 1985. It is open to all interested parties for a membership fee, currently £10 a year. Our aim is to put on an annual production in November, usually at the Victory Hall and lasting 3 nights. We invariably choose a comedy, but from a large and varied repertoire including Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward ,and Alan Ayckbourn. Some years we perform a pantomime written "in house". Occasionally we perform other pieces, such as one written to commemorate Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee. We have an open AGM in January, play-readings hosted by members in the spring, and a few social and fun-raising events such as quizzes. As well as acting there are many back-stage jobs involved with each production. New members are always very welcome so come along, have fun, and meet new friends!
