The purpose of this plan is to provide a rapid, local response to prevent or diminish the effects of an emergency in the North Molton area. It does not in any way replace the 999 system which people should use to summon assistance from Police, Fire and Ambulance Services.
Please note that Devon County Council is responsible for Emergency Planning and is obliged to provide protection and coordinate any longer term response.
The Plan will be activated whenever the Parish Council Chairman or Vicechairman and two other Parish Councillors consider it necessary. Examples may include: prolonged snowfall isolating individual households; flooding; large fires; an epidemic/pandemic or anything which has the potential to cause death, injury or serious damage to property. When the Emergency Plan is activated, parish councillors will coordinate the use of local amenities and resources. This will include:
* Calling upon people with specialised skills and equipment;
* Distributing sandbags;
* Arranging emergency accommodation; and,
* Ensuring the relevant Devon County Council resources are utilised.
